Princess Kimani a Crawford International School student worked collaboratively with two other Kenya students who represented Moi Educational Centre to win a silver medal at the Scholar’s Bowl event in the Tournament of Champions. This brought together the best of the World Scholar’s Cup at Yale University, one of the top Ivy League universities in the world.
Explaining the Tournament of Champions, Jenny Coetzee, the Managing Director of Crawford International School, said, “The competition attracts students from 82 countries interested in learning beyond school curriculum and focuses on bringing students from diverse cultures to discuss issues and ideas relevant today.The regional selection round in which the Kenya team qualified for the finals of the Scholar’s Cup was held in Beijing China and included collaborative writing and debating.”
The competition also earned Princess an individual gold medal for the Top Scholar category from Crawford International School. In addition she got the rare opportunity to tour the prestigious Yale University and interact with its students.
She also did some sightseeing in New York where she visited the Statue of Liberty. The event and the whole excursion were an excellent exposure to Princess. Indeed, it was an experience from which any student (especially at senior level) would gain immense insight and inspiration.
Jenny Coetzee added, “At Crawford we believe that ‘every child is a masterpiece’ so when Princess Kimani qualified for the Tournament of Champions we did not hesitate to support her all the way.”
