The new Mercedes Benz Actros which has won the 2020 International Truck of the Year Award was launched in Kenya at a lavish function at the Tamarind Tree hotel by Zarak Khan, the DT Dobie Executive Director and Ian Middleton, the Managing Director. The function was one of the events celebrating the 70th anniversary of the Company in partnership with Daimler.

In his keynote speech, Zarak Khan said, ”When I joined DT Dobie in 1981 as a Management Trainee I never dreamed that one day I would be with Mercedes truck owners to mark the 70th anniversary of our Company and introduce the new Mercedes-Benz Actros best-selling prime mover. This is an emotional and proud moment for me and my colleagues.”

“Throughout the history of DT Dobie Mercedes-Benz trucks have been a very important part of the Company’s business. One of the first Company owned vehicles was a 1952 Mercedes- Benz truck. This was used for 31 years to ferry spares from Mombasa to Nairobi. The historical Mercedes is on display in our Lusaka road premises.”

“All of us in DT Dobie know that we are fortunate to represent Mercedes-Benz trucks which have a well-earned reputation for reliability and long life combined with value for money. We have enhanced this status by quality servicing and repairs carried out by our factory trained technicians who are backed by a comprehensive stock of spares.”
“Another factor is the DT Dobie training programme for drivers run by Joe Mungai. The three day course features a mix of classroom and on the road lessons. The curriculum is based on the key role of drivers to achieve the best possible return from the owner’s investment.”

“It is no surprise that the Actros has been the best seller in the Kenya prime mover segment for over six years and achieved over 47 per cent share so far this year.”
“We are delighted that the latest Actros which we are launching today sets new benchmarks for performance and fuel efficiency. As the transport business becomes increasingly competitive we are pleased to tell you that the fuel consumption of the latest model has been reduced by up to four percent.”

“Our confidence in the new model stems from the experience of the world’s longest established and most highly reputed truck manufacturer. For over 100 years Mercedes-Benz has become famous for pioneering new vehicle technology manufacturing and robust vehicles.”
