Car and General has launched a new Piaggio three wheeler (tuk tuk) with a more powerful engine. The four stroke 435cc diesel engine has an average fuel consumption of 36 kilometres per litre and the vehicle comes with a two year warranty.
Eric Masabule, the Car and General Product Manager for Piaggio said, “There is a growing need for more urban transport which is driven by the rapid expansion of cities and towns in the 47 counties. Three wheelers are gaining popularity as they are perceived to be safer than motorcycles.”
“The new Piaggio City Diesel is more attractive with a powerful engine ideal for hilly terrain therefore it handles better in wet conditions. The body has stronger mudguards, LED lights, increased room, improved dashboard with radio and speaker, and a better braking system.“
The Piaggio three wheelers are a preferred mode of transport in many urban centres because their running costs are low so they are very economical as taxis. The new model is very popular around Thika and its environs because of the ability to handle hills and mud. The van and pick-up models are used for delivery work, courier services and fast food operations.
The addition of this model brings to seven different Piaggio passenger and cargo models sold and serviced by Car and General. As the regional sales agent for Piaggio, the Company has a workshop on Lusaka Road in the Industrial Area for repair and service. There are branches and dealers throughout the country who also offer a full range of genuine spares.
