Lesedi Developers Limited, a leading real estate company in Kenya, has introduced Lesedi Homes limited as one of its subsidiaries. The idea was born out of the desire to offer affordable housing to the middle class. According to the property company, affordable housing does not happen by simply downsizing a model targeted at middle-income populations. It requires creativity and deep understandings of the target market’s preferences and where there is room to maneuver on costs.
The move is in line with the President’s Big Four Agenda of providing affordable housing for sale to the low and middle income households. Offering decent and affordable housing units is one way of transforming peoples’ lives by fulfilling one of the basic needs of a human being, which is shelter. So far,the first batch of houses completed under the affordable housing project was handed over to the government early this year.
The participation of private sector in the affordable housing agenda will resolve the backlog of housing problems in the country. By introducing Lesedi Homes Limited, the real estate company will join the course and help the middle income earners own a home.
