
To meet the growing demand for nine tonne trucks DT Dobie, the sole distributor for Hyundai light trucks has introduced the EX9 model as an alternative to the five and seven tonne versions whichhave been assembled by KVM in Thika for the past eight years. The Hyundai range sold and serviced by the Company now consists of five, seven and ninetonne variants.
The market segment for light trucks ranging from 3.5 to 9tonnes has remained steady this year with a total of 1,328 sold between January and the end of October compared with 1,358 in 2019.With only a choice of five and seven tonne models Hyundai sales totalled 113 this year up to October compared with 50 in 2019. This clearly shows the growing popularity of Hyundai light trucks because of their performance and reliability.
The key attributes are an extra-longchassis,superior fuel efficiency, powerful exhaust brake and hydraulic power steering among others. The trucks carry a three year, or 100,000 kilometre warranty which clearly illustrates the confidenceof the Hyundai Motor Company.
A significant number of owners operate fleets of more than 10 Hyundai trucks and a high proportion of them havecovered more than 500,000 kilometreswith only routine maintenance and minor repairs. Users are fast moving consumer goods (FMCG) distributors, farmers, bakeries, builders, manufacturing companies and transporters.
The long wheel base of the nine tonne version makes this truck adaptable to a variety of bodies that can be fitted to the cargo area. They can be built to suit different business needs including vans for refrigerated cargoes and outside catering, flatbeds and dump and tank trucks.
The Hyundai vehicles are serviced at the state of the art DT Dobie workshop on Lusaka Road which has a large stock of genuine parts. Branches in Mombasa, Nakuru and Kisumu also sell and service these trucks.
